Spring Wind Quintet
– Something Old, Something New

It doesn't get any newer than the world premiere of a work by Keola Beamer which has been commissioned with support from the Honolulu Mayor's Office on Culture and the Arts. The jazz-inspired rhythms of the Harbison will contrast with the Brahms-inspired Rondo of Zemlinsky and the romantic sonorities of Carl Reinecke’s Sextet. The program also celebrates the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth with a specially-commissioned arrangement of one of his works by our own talented Marsha Schweitzer. Don’t miss these thrilling world premieres!

Keola Beamer – TBA
John Harbison – Quintet
Alexander von Zemlinsky – Rondo “Humoresque”
Carl Reinecke – Sextet in B-flat Major, Op. 271
W. A. Mozart/Schweitzer arrangement

The Tresemble
– 2(genius) x 8

This program contrasts the works of two geniuses, Stravinsky and Mozart. Both employ the forces of eight winds and brass in different ensemble combinations. While stylistically different, both works are a tour de force, exploiting the harmonic, melodic, and contrapuntal potential of these ensembles. Don’t miss the chance to experience these two masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire.

Stravinsky – Octet for Wind Instruments
W.A. Mozart – Serenade No. 12 in c minor
